Exclusive Premiere Video: Ev’ryday Black – “So Fresh”

2013-10-12 21.37.21-1

DC’s own Ev’ryday Black Band releases the visuals for their first single “So Fresh,”  which has been creating a lot of buzz for the Hip-Hop-Soul band.  Shot and recorded at DC’s Listen Vision studios last Summer, the video takes a look at the behind the scenes, in studio session as Dre Black and J-Ev’ryday lay down their vocals for the track.  “So Fresh” is Ev’ryday Black street anthem about looking and staying fly. One of their most braggadocios songs to date see’s Dre Black label dropping, and stating “if it ain’t got a label, then that just won’t do;” however the song was written in good fun.  The men of Ev’ryday Black are really not materialistic at all, but had to embody the boldness and go-go flavored tune to enhance the swag heavy track.  Get into “So Fresh” below:

Artist Spotlight – ‘M!xBreed’

Hailing from the DMV M!xbreed is bringing a fresh style to the Hip-Hop game.  With so many different artists, rappers, crews, etc mixing it up throughout the DMV, it takes a special breed to outshine the rest of the competition.  M!xbreed is doing just that making sure that he creates his own lane.  M!xbreed is an enigma to say the least. Everything you look for in an artist but nothing you’d ever expect. Lyrical, energetic, charismatic, M!xbreed consistently strives to not only be the best but also the most original. With a seemingly unorthodox style and flow makes him sound perfectly out of place.

M!xbreed began pursuing his passion after making a name for himself at Woodbridge High School (VA) with the first four bars he uttered. There was a group of guys banging on lockers & a trash can recreating the beat to Pharell’s “Grinding.” He walked in the hallway and said, “Grinding… Girls only thing in my mind B, Girls call me Mikey… Flow in my veins like I.V./ I mean I got it in the bag like an I.V./ Tell Timbaland I’m def (deaf), he should sign me”. Those 4 bars set the integrity for the rest of his life. He signed with DC’s number one independent recording label and booking agency G Town Entertainment/Music. Now, he does shows with artists such as Jeezy, Juvenile and Young Dro. Stayed tuned and watch the birth of the next “ONE.”  You can find his music on both iTunes and Amazon. Check out his latest single “Lost.”

Study Connects Early Baldness to Prostate Cancer in African Americans

New research finds a link between early baldness and cancer of the male reproductive gland known as the prostate. The study involved African-American men, a group at particularly high risk of prostate cancer.

At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be an obvious connection between prostate cancer and baldness. But University of Pennsylvania researcher Charnita M. Zeigler-Johnson, PhD, says the two may be linked through a testosterone product called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT.  The hormonal chemical, Zeigler-Johnson explains, “is a form of testosterone that seems to be associated with male-pattern baldness and also connected to prostate cancer occurrence and prostate cancer progression.”

Previous studies have looked at the link between baldness and prostate cancer, but Zeigler-Johnson says this is the first to focus on African-American men, whose prostate cancer death rate is two and a half times that of white American men.

In the study, Zeigler-Johnson and her colleagues asked about 300 prostate cancer patients and some 200 non-patients about their baldness history. They then compared the type of baldness and the age when the men started losing hair with their medical histories..

The study by Charnita Zeigler-Johnson and her colleagues is published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

Exercise Lengthens Your Life – Even if You’re Overweight

Exercise lengthens your life - even if you're overweight

Add this to the list of reasons why exercise is good for you: A new study says 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity, leisure time exercise is associated with roughly 3.4 years added to a person’s life.

Researchers from the National Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, and other organizations analyzed six different prospective cohort studies of more than 632,000 people ages 40 and older. The studies had a median follow-up period of 10 years, with roughly 82,000 reported deaths. Regular, moderate intensity exercise was associated with an increased life expectancy, even when the person exercising had an unhealthy Body Mass Index (BMI).

Dr. I-Min Lee, a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the senior author of the study, says that not exercising but having a healthy weight was associated with 3.1 fewer years of life, compared to obese people who were active. Conversely, people who exercised 150 minutes a week and had a healthy BMI gained an extra 7.2 years of life.

While it’s best to be at a healthy weight for your body, Lee thinks her team’s analysis demonstrates that every bit of activity helps, regardless of a person’s size.

“This shows if you emphasize physical activity, you still get the benefit,” says Lee. “Overweight, obese, severely obese – if you are active, the results suggest that you … have more of a benefit than someone who is not heavy but not active.”

IRS Delays Tax Season, Will Start Accepting Returns On January 30

Irs Delays Tax Season

The Internal Revenue Service says late changes to federal tax laws should mean only a short delay for most taxpayers to file their 2012 returns.

The agency said Tuesday that more than 120 million taxpayers – about 80 percent of all filers – should be able to start filing their federal returns on Jan. 30. Others will have to wait until late February or March to file because the agency needs time to update and test its systems.

Those who will have to wait include people claiming residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits. The filing season had been slated to start Jan. 22 but was delayed because of the big tax package passed by Congress Jan. 1.
