Beyonce Interviews Solange For ‘Interview Magazine’

Earlier this year Beyonce and Solange made history when both sisters scored #1 albums atop the Billboard 100.  Both albums LEMONADE and “A Seat At The Table”, opened up to rave and critical reviews and both made most Best Album list of 2016.  Beyonce had the pleasure of interviewing her little sister for Interview magazine.  Check out some excerpts and pics below:

SOLANGE KNOWLES INTERVIEWED BY BEYONCE KNOWLES

On what attracted her to music and art from a young age:

BEYONCÉ: Well, it is a bit strange, because we’re sisters and we talk all the time, to be interviewing you. But I’m so happy to interview you because, clearly, I’m your biggest fan and I’m super proud of you. So we’ll start from the beginning. Growing up, you were always attracted to the most interesting fashion, music, and art…What else attracted you growing up?

SOLANGE: I remember having so much perspective about my voice, and how to use my voice, at such a young age—whether it was through dance, poetry, or coming up with different projects. I guess I always felt a yearning to communicate—I had a lot of things to say. And I appreciated y’all’s patience in the house during all of these different phases. They were not ever very introverted, quiet phases.

BEYONCÉ: No, not at all. [both laugh]

On what her mother, Tina, taught her:

SOLANGE: And, as far back as I can remember, our mother always taught us to be in control of our voice and our bodies and our work, and she showed us that through her example.

On their hometown:

BEYONCÉ: Well, I am so glad we grew up in Houston. And I know that it’s such a big inspiration for all of us: you, myself, my mom, my dad … everybody that lives there. How can you describe growing up on Parkwood, and what about our hometown do you carry with you?

SOLANGE: Growing up on Parkwood was so inspiring because we got to see a little bit of everything. We grew up in the same neighborhood that produced Scarface, Debbie Allen, and Phylicia Rashad. So, culturally, it was as rich as it gets.

On being a strong woman:

BEYONCÉ: What are some misconceptions about being a strong woman?

SOLANGE: Oh my God, they’re endless! [laughs] One thing that I constantly have to fight against is not feeling arrogant when I say I wrote every lyric on this album. I still have not been able to say that. That’s the first time I’ve actually ever said it, because of the challenges that we go through when we celebrate our work and our achievements… It’s something I’ve learned so much about from you, getting to be in control of your own narrative. And, at this point, it should be an expectation, not something that you’re asking permission for. I feel like I’m getting closer to that, not taking on all the baggage when I have to just stand up for myself and say, “No, I’m uncomfortable with that.” And I really appreciate you and mom being examples of that, being able to speak about our achievements, these things that deserve to be celebrated, without feeling bashful about it.

On her latest album, A Seat at the Table:

SOLANGE: It was very intentional that I sang as a woman who was very in control, a woman who could have this conversation without yelling and screaming, because I still often feel that when black women try to have these conversations, we are not portrayed as in control, emotionally intact women, capable of having the hard conversations without losing that control.

On working with her husband:

SOLANGE: Only a person who loves me would say yes to shooting 21 scenes in one week and climbing mountains and literally crossing waterfalls with million-dollar equipment strapped to his back… And only a person who loves you would say, “Let’s fly back to New Orleans, rent a car, and just you and I do that trip all over again.” I was so happy to have a partner in crime, because visual storytelling is just as important, if not more important in some ways, to the overall storytelling of my projects.

On what makes her laugh:

BEYONCÉ: What makes you laugh the hardest?

SOLANGE: The Real Housewives of Atlanta, hands- down.

BEYONCÉ: Really?! I didn’t know that.

SOLANGE: I watch it religiously, and I am in stitches the whole time.

On being star struck:

BEYONCÉ: One of my proudest moments as a sister was when I was able to introduce you to your hero, Nas, and you cried and acted a fool. I was so surprised that Mrs. Too-cool-for-everything was acting a fool. Is there another human being that would get that reaction out of you now if you met him/her?

SOLANGE: Diana Ross. For sure. I broke out in some hives when I went to her concert. Alan was like, “Uh, you’re breaking out into hives. Calm down.”

On Beyoncé as an older sister:

BEYONCÉ: And, honestly, growing up, how did I do as a big sister?

SOLANGE: You did a kickass job. You were the most patient, loving, wonderful sister ever. In the 30 years that we’ve been together, I think we’ve only really, like, butted heads … we can count on one hand.

BEYONCÉ: I was expecting something funny, but I’ll take it. Thank you.

After winning against the Redskins, some Giants players including Odell Beckham Jr. and Victor Cruz headed to Miami to sail along with Trey Songz on his yacht.

The players could be seen having it up on the yacht, posting the day’s festivities on Snapchat and other social media.  However, did all that fun in the sun cost them their playoff chances against Green Bay?  Well fans surely seem to think so and are letting Odell and Trey have it!!

The Golden Globes: Red Carpet Chic Featuring the “Brown Girls”

The Golden Globes were in full effect on Sunday night and brought out the biggest and brightest stars.  The Black Star power was definitely on display on the red carpet.  The night included some pretty big wins for people like Tracee Ellis Ross and Donald Glover who won an award for his TV series “Atlanta.”  Issa Rae who is pictured above was nominated but did not win.  Her chances for next year are looking very promising.

Black Girl Magic! Hidden Figures Rules the Box Office

“Hidden Figures” beats out “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” for the no.1 spot at the box office.

Via Variety:

Fox’s “Hidden Figures” has topped Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” by about $1 million for the No. 1 spot at the North American box office, with $22.8 million at 2,471 sites, final figures showed Monday.

Sunday estimates had indicated that “Rogue One” was ahead by less than $200,000. But the comedy-drama “Hidden Figures” performed well ahead of those estimates on Sunday to deny “Rogue One” a fourth consecutive box office crown.

This Can’t Be Life: Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Confirm Boxing Match

Chris Brown and Soulja Boy are taking their petty beef to the next level by hitting the boxing ring!

Soulja boy announced that he has signed his contract and the fight is “It’s going down!”

Chris Brown added: “BOXING MATCH SET. Legally. Man to Man. NO MORE DISSING AND NO MORE BULLSHIT.”

August Alsina Announce New Album “Drugs,” Releases New Song, Take a Listen:

One of my favorite male R&B singers of the new school has released a new song.  August Alsina announced that he will be releasing a new album entitled “Drugs.”  He also released a song of the same title on his Soundcloud.

According to August, the title is a reflection of a major realization the singer had while crafting new music.

“I realized how addicted to certain ways of living life I was, addicted to chaos, drama, confusion,” he said. “Lately, for me, it’s been about breaking the cycle and creating a new normal. That new normal is love. I have a newfound addiction. Through love and beautiful women, I’ve been able to find myself, reach higher places within myself.”

This marks the start of a new era for the singer. “Sooooo fucking excited to finally beable to release new music!!!!” he wrote to fans. “Thank you all for being so patient with me on my journey… Im so proud to share all of the newness with yal & spread vibrations of love through the music.”

Welcome Back!!

2016 has come and gone and now we are almost done with our first week of the new year!! R.I.P to all that we lost in 2016, including Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, and George Micheal to name a few.

2017 has brought additions as well, big congrats to Janet Jackson and her husband, Wissam Al Mana for welcoming their first son, Eissa Al Mana.  Janet is 50 years old.

Pink also added a special addition to her family.  She gave birth to Jameson Moon Hart December 26, 2016. Pink and husband Carey Hart already has a daughter.

It did not take long for drama to ensue in the first week of 2017.  Our favorite shit starter Chris Brown has been embroiled in “Twitter/IG beef” apparently with Soulja Boy for liking one of Karreuche Tran’s pictures on Instagram.  As we all know Karreuche is the ex-girlfriend of Chris.

It did not stop there, when Karreuche added her 2 cents, Chris went in on her:

Chris still has no chill!!

Big drama and controversy also ensued when gospel great Kim Burrell went on a tirade  attacking the LGBT community in a sermon that she preached, which also took aim at Bishop Eddie Long.

In the fiery sermon Kim tells the congregation,

“I came to tell you about sin. That sin nature. That perverted homosexual spirit, and the spirit of delusion and confusion, it has deceived many men and women, and it’s caused us pain on the body of Christ.”

“You as a man, you open your mouth and take a man’s penis in your face, you are perverted… You are a woman and will shake your face in another woman’s breast, you are perverted.”

“Watching Bishop Eddie Long go down to nothing is an embarrassment to the church.”

“Nobody would be thinking that you had aids if a homosexual man didn’t come out and reveal what you did behind closed doors.”

Kim Burrell was scheduled to appear on The Ellen Degeneres Show along with Pharrell to perform their song ‘I See a Victory’ from the Hidden Figures soundtrack.  However, Ellen confirmed via Twitter that Ms. Burrell would not be performing.

Mariah Carey

Controversy is still brewing about Mariah Carey’s ill-fated New Year’s Eve performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Both sides have been going back and forth pointing the finger with Mariah ultimately feeling “sabotaged” by the Dick Clark’s production team.  Now Mariah has fired creative-director Anthony Burrell from her team confirmed by E! News.
