Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III Says Injury Has Made Him More Careful

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III is one of the most dynamic young quarterbacks in the league, but there is some concern that his playing style could lead to a shortened career if he continues to take the big hits from defenders on a weekly basis.

Griffin’s knack for gaining the extra few yards led to him being shaken up this season and there was no hit that served as a bigger wake up call than when Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Haloti Ngata struck Griffin in the knee. It resulted in a ligament sprain, but the injury could have been much worse.

The rookie star knows his season could have been ended on that big hit and it has caused him to move forward with caution.

“The injury has shown me a lot – just from a quarterback perspective,” Griffin told the media.  “This game is not easy, but [the injury] did show me some things I can do to make the game easier for myself, easier on my body.

“Ironically, I’ve done a better job of protecting myself since the injury – sliding, getting down, getting all the possible yards I can and getting out of bounds.  Sometimes, things have to happen like that for you to really, really grasp that.  It’s shown me a lot.  I don’t think I’ve ever rushed for 10 yards a carry in a game and I did that in this past game.”

Griffin has shown flashes of brilliance during his first year in the NFL, but if he continues to take big hits his career could be shortened. That is something no one would like to see, so let’s hope Griffin will play with this level of caution for the remainder of his career.

Kansas City Chiefs Player Involved In Murder-Suicide

It is suspected that Jovan Belcher, a 25-year-old Kansas City Chiefs player fatally shot his girlfriend early Saturday, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager, police said. Police spokesman Darin Snapp said the player killed his girlfriend and then went to the team practice facility, where he shot himself. He did not identify either the player or his victim.  Members of the Chiefs organization told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that some players noticed the shooter was troubled in his car, and went in the facility and told someone, before coach Romeo Crennel and general manager Scott Pioli called police and went outside to talk to him. The player then killed himself in front of them.

Before turning the gun on himself, the player thanked Pioli and Crennel for all they had done for him, Snapp said. Authorities received a call Saturday morning from a woman who said her daughter had been shot multiple times at a residence about five miles away from the Arrowhead complex.  “When we arrived, a lady informed us that her daughter had been shot multiple times by her boyfriend, by the daughter’s boyfriend,” Snapp said. “She identified him as a Chiefs player.” Snapp said a call was then received from the Chiefs’ facility. “The description matched the suspect description from that other address. We kind of knew what we were dealing with,” he said. The player was “holding a gun to his head” as he stood in front of the front doors of the practice facility.

“And there were Pioli and Crennel and another coach or employee was standing outside and appeared to be talking to him. It appeared they were talking to the suspect,” Snapp said. “The suspect began to walk in the opposite direction of the coaches and the officers and that’s when they heard the gunshot. It appears he took his own life.”  The coaches told police they never felt in any danger, Snapp said. “They said the player was actually thanking them for everything they’d done for him,” he said. “They were just talking to him and he was thanking them and everything. That’s when he walked away and shot himself.”  Snapp described the girlfriend as in her early 20s and that she and the player had a child together. He said the woman’s mother told police they had recently been arguing.  Arrowhead Stadium has been lockdown since about 8 a.m.  “We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning,” the Chiefs said in a statement. “We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation.”

Kansas City is scheduled to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The league has informed the Panthers to travel as scheduled because the game is going on as scheduled. The Chiefs, expected to contend for the AFC West title, are 1-10 and mired in an eight-game losing streak.  The Chiefs have been ravaged by injuries, lead the league in turnovers, can’t settle on a quarterback and are dealing with a full-fledged fan rebellion.

Things have been so bad this season that Crennel fired himself as defensive coordinator. The Twitter account for a fan group known as “Save Our Chiefs” recently surpassed 80,000 followers, about 17,000 more than the announced crowd at a recent game.

Adult Daycare? The Dallas Cowboys Organization Gives Dez Bryant A Curfew, Bans Him From Drinking and Strip Clubs

Dallas Cowboys’ receiver, Dez Bryant, has a tough time staying out of trouble. Coach Jason Garrett is going above and beyond his call of duty to help Bryant and his family with their tribulations. “What we’ve tried to do is come up with a plan for Dez like we would for any player who we feel like needs our support, and help him be his best as a player and as a person,” Garrett said. “And the accountability factor is an important part of that with him and with anybody on our football team.

Although Garrett released few details to the extent of the help the organization is providing and the punishment that will be enforced upon Bryant if he fails to adhere to the rules, numerous reports have revealed that Bryant will attend weekly counseling sessions, have a full-time security team and not be allowed to consume alcohol or patronize strip clubs. The security members will drive Bryant to team functions, including practices and games, and the receiver will also be subject to a curfew.

Bryant was arrested in July for allegedly assaulting his mother. Although she has said she doesn’t want authorities to pursue charges against him, he still stands a chance of being disciplined by the NFL. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told The Associated Press in an email Monday that the league “will review the facts once the case is resolved by the court.” He said the team’s guidelines for Bryant will have nothing to do with league discipline.

We’re going to control what we can control as an organization, and Dez has done everything that we’ve asked him to do up to this point both on and off the football field,” Garrett said. “Any decision about that is out of our control.”

According to reports, Ochocinco could be placed behind bars for head butting Lozada because he previously had a domestic violence charge in 2000. Because of that, Johnson’s current misdemeanor domestic violence charge could be upgraded to a felony. If the prosecution chooses to upgrade the charge, Johnson could be facing a year in the slammer.
