MEAGAN GOOD PRODUCES AND STARS IN NEW MOVIE ‘VIDEO GIRL’
Actress, Meagan Good will take a turn behind the cameras, producing and starring in “Video Girl,” a film about the life of a “video girl”. The film will star such highly esteemed video stars such as Melyssa Ford and Esther Baxter plus Hollywood socialites like Claudia Jordan. It will open April 29th in limited theaters. Last year, Meagan told VIBE. com about the project:
“I just produced a film that should be out by the end of the year called Video Girl. It’s very much like Gia––the HBO film Angelina Jolie did for HBO. It’s not the Karrine Steffans story. It’s about a very unassuming girl from a small town who used to be a professional dancer until she gets a knee injury. So she’s in a place where she’s trying to figure out what she wants to do professionally. She gets hooked into the video-modeling world, develops a drug habit and really gets caught up in the limelight.”

Fantasia Lands New Movie Role
The Huffington Post reports:
Fantasia Barrino has had her problems over the past year, but unintentional weight gain is not one of them.
The “American Idol” winner has been seen with extra pounds of late, but she says it’s on purpose — she’s getting into character for a new movie, in which she’ll star as soul singer Mahalia Jackson.
“In fact, she’s just signed on to play the lead in Mahalia and has been told to gain 30 to 45 pounds for the role,” her rep confirmed.
The Euzhan Palcy directed movie begins shooting in April in Chicago and is slated for release at the year’s end. As relates to the story, the film is an adaptation of Jackson’s 1993 autobiography – ‘Got to Tell It: Mahalia Jackson, Queen of Gospel’.
Penned by James Evering, the big screen flick will chronicle the singer’s life; from her early years in poverty-lashed New Orleans to her rise to stardom. An early and avid advocate for the late, great Martin Luther King Jr, Jackson was also a major supporter of the Civil Rights Movement.
REUNITED & IT FEELS SO GOOD: The “Best Man” Cast Celebrates 12 Years!
The Best Man cast hit BOA restaurant in L.A. Saturday night to kick it 12 years after they released the movie.
Director Malcolm Lee said about the cast’s reunion:
On Saturday, January 29th, the cast and the director of the 1999 film, The Best Man, which opened at #1 in the box-office, got together in West Hollywood for drinks and dinner to reminisce, catch up and discuss the future. It’s hard to believe we all haven’t been in the same space for over 12 years, but it was like we’ve seen each other everyday. It was a joy to reunite with the “Black Pack”, one of the best casts ever assembled in my view. Judging from the laughs, conversation and smiles we’d all love to find a way to collaborate again. God willing it’ll happen.
JAY-Z, WILL & JADA SMITH FORMING NEW FILM COMPANY
Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and their partners at Overbrook Entertainment have formed a joint-venture with Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter to develop and produce major motion pictures. First up? Although the project is in its preliminary stages, it will be developed with Sony Pictures Entertainment and produced by Overbrook and Jay.
The partnership between Will and Jada and Jay-Z began when the three decided to invest in the beauty line Carol’s Daughter. Their next venture together was when they joined forces again to co-produce the Broadway play “Fela!” Since then, Willow, who is managed by Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez, has signed to Roc Nation and released first single “Whip My Hair.”
“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision. We’ve already produced a Tony Award-winning play and we’re developing a true superstar in Willow,” said Jay-Z in a statement. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative and innovative.”
