Ev’ryday Black is BACK!!!
Ev’ryday Black was created back in 2007 by bestfriends J’Evryday and Dre Black. Combining the most talented of musicians from across the DMV, Ev’ryday Black was birthed from the roots of Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk with hint of that DC sound Go-Go. The band had a brief stint at the Ras Dashen and the R & R, before disbanding in 2008. J’Ev’ryday went on to form Ev’ryday Baby and Dre Black created a milder form of Ev’ryday Black, Dre Black & Egocentric. Dre Black & Egocentric had the pleasure of performing at the Summer Jam, Black Family Reunion, and other special performances throughout 2009.
The reigniting of Ev’ryday Black has been in the works ever since they disbanded and are ready to hit the stage together again for the first time in four years. The fans that were acquired will be happy to know that they will be a mainstay at Haydee’s Lounge located at 6303 Georgia Ave, NW the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, with a big show every three months featuring the hottest DMV talent. The opening night is this Saturday, April 7th, doors open at 7pm. Dre Black even has a drink created in his honor called the “Black Margarita,” which is the #1 drink at Haydee’s, and he and J’Ev’ryday have concocted a new drink the “ Ev’ryday Black,” which is comprised of VSOP Remy, Orange Juice, Ginger Ale, and a special ingredient. Make sure to come and check out the underground band that has the streets buzzing reading to take on not just the DMV, but the entire nation!!!

Celebrities, Athletes and Thousands More Wear Hoodies in Support of Trayvon Martin
Thousands across the country donned hoodies yesterday in remembrance of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was shot to death by a neighborhood watch captain in Florida last month. The shooting has sparked a nationwide uproar over race and justice, with even President Obama weighing in.
Thousands of people participated in the Million Hoodies March in cities across the country to seek justice for Martin, who was wearing a hoodie when he was killed.
“I didn’t know wearing a hoodie made me a target,” tweeted the Diddy, while Swizz Beatz wrote, “Had to Hoodie up for Trayvon. What a sad situation! Blessing to his fam.”
Many celebrities voiced their support via social media, while Ludacris, Jamie Foxx, Frank Ocean, Nelly, The-Dream, and players from the Miami Heat sported hoodies in a showing of solidarity. It’s a beautiful thing when we as people can ALL unite for the greater good. Life would be so much better if we implemented that type of compassion on a daily basis!!!

Documentary: ’25 to Life’, Howard University Alum William Brawner Opens Up About His HIV and Why He Chose to Come Clean
Via Concrete Loop
At the age of 18 months, William Brawner contracted the HIV virus. At the age of 5, his mother finally disclosed the news to him and told him to never tell anyone of his immunodeficiency, including close family and friends. 25 years and some girlfriends later, Brawner decided to come clean with his family, friends and past partners, while attempting to start life anew with his new wife, who is HIV-negatvie.
In the Mike Brown-directed documentary 25 To Life, a now 27-year-old William is forced to comes to terms with the consequences of his big secret. Many family, friends are of course shocked and disappointed that he couldn’t be honest with his sexual partners.

“I suppressed my HIV status so much that I minimized it. And because I couldn’t express it, it didn’t exist. Because things were a game to me, I was always looking for my next conquest. That’s how I expressed my man hood. That’s how I expressed my bravado. […] I know I’m a day late and dollar short, but I feel terrible and I want to
Hopefully, this brings more inisight and awareness about his story and will encourage others who may be dealing with similar situations. Watch the interesting trailer below:
Former Howard University Student with HIV Reveals Lots of Unprotected Sex He Had on Campus
Via: Your Black World
William “Reds” Brawner was apparently a hot commodity on the Howard University campus. As a student who graduated from the university in 2006, Brawner had a long list of female friends, many of whom were willing to do whatever he wanted at the drop of a hat.
One thing these women might have wanted to know about the man with whom they were sharing their bodies is that Brawner was HIV-positive the entire time. Even worse, he now admits that he had a great deal of unprotected sex during his time at Howard University.
“Will liked the girls and the girls liked Will,” one of his college buddies told TheLoop21.
Later down the road, when Brawner appeared in Essence Magazine as a result of his confession, that led to the other students from Howard replaying their interactions with him over the years. Many of the women who slept with Brawner have declined to comment, since they are probably embarrassed about what happened. One can only imagine how many official girlfriends and unofficial “friends with benefits” Will had over the years and how many people they might have infected.
As our children learn these lessons about love and life, its important that we help them to realize that there are thousands of other William Brawners in the world whose stories have not yet been told. Some of them don’t even know they are the delivery boys of death, and think that the powerful act of sex is simply a method of quick gratification. Most of us who went to college remember frat parties where unspeakable things happened in the dark, and both men and women who had no concern with the concept of sexual responsibility. Even worse is that some fraternities (I won’t name which ones, but you might be able to guess) actually encourage rampant sexual promiscuity among black men, leading some of us to become the deadliest weapons in our own communities.
Knowing your own status is critical on the roulette wheel of love, but knowing the status of your partner is the piece of information that might make all the difference. Also, teaching our kids about sex in an honest and open fashion might help them to learn the value of protecting their bodies as they go through the valuable journey of love and life. None of us is positioned to judge the sexual choices of other people, but we must ask ourselves if our actions are being guided by our own preferences, or being inspired by an urban radio culture that tells us to drop our pants whenever it feels right.
NJ Cops Protest Common’s White House Visit Over Assata Shakur Track
The head of the union that represents the New Jersey State Police has spoken out against Common’s visit to the White House tonight (May 11th).
Common is among the guests to attend the White House celebration of American poetry, which is being hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
In addition to Common, Aimee Mann, Jill Scott, Elizabeth Alexander, Kenneth Goldsmith, Alison Knowles, Bill Collins and Rita Dove are scheduled to give poetry readings.
During an interview with NBC New York, David Jones, President of the State Troopers Fraternal Association Union, took offense to the lyrics in Common’s track “A Song for Assata.”
“The young people who read this stuff, hear this stuff, are getting a very dangerous and deadly message,” David Jones, president of the State Troopers Fraternal Association union told NBC.
“A Song for Assata” pays homage to Joanne Chesimard aka Assata Shakur, who was convicted of killing a New Jersey Police officer during a controversial trial in 1973.
Shakur escaped a prison in 1979 and is currently residing in Cuba under political asylum, although the United States Government is still offering a $1 million dollar reward for her capture.
The State Troopers Fraternal Association Union are upset because Common’s visit comes as they prepare to head to Washington, D.C. to honor slain officers at the National Law Enforcement Memorial.
Jermaine Dupri Creates Facebook & Twitter Alternative: Global 14
Music producer-turned-Internet entrepreneur Jermaine Dupri is making like Mark Zuckerberg and has created a new social network called Global 14 (or “G14″).
Dupri says he designed and developed it to be the “coolest, hippest city” on the Internet.
“Global 14 was created because of the increasing trend of ‘social notifying’ versus ‘social networking,’ says Dupri. “Social notifying is when people share information, such as in ‘Hey, check out this website.’ There’s no conversation or expectation of a response.”
However, Global 14 is about establishing dialogue and making connections.
“There’s no real social networking anymore,” maintains Dupri. “People just post updates without replying or engaging their followers. At G14, if you hit me up with a question, nine times out of ten, I’ll respond. I’m talking with people all day on there.”
In less than three months, the site has secured over 10,650 subscribers and receives about 100,000 unique visitors a month. Members “friend” and follow each other. They post conversations to their page which can be linked to other social media accounts.
“Unlike other sites, G14 is not about how many followers you can get,” says Dupri. “It’s about the relationships. ‘Friends’ should be your real friends.”
Celebrities who have already signed on to Global14 include Mariah Carey, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Nelly, Kelly Rowland, Bow Wow, Monica, Anthony Hamilton, and Kevin Hart.
Additionally, the site features nearly 500 discussion groups with topics ranging from dating and relationships to cooking, education, music and sex.
“I’m trying to encourage young America to get more involved in what’s going on with social media and the tech world,” says Dupri. “I want to show them that we can use computers for more than just watching crazy videos, posting pictures and reading about celebrities.”
