“When I say I’m versatile I really mean just that. The key instrument a true artist has is being challenged.  When I hear beats like Jay Z’s classic “I’m feeling it”, I see it as a challenge. The fact of the matter is, rappers are afraid to look or sound bad. So they stray away from songs or concepts that will put them in that position. Me on the other hand, I think of how many people can’t do something and then I attempt to do it. Doing this song was all about challenging myself and daring other people to do the same.”

“This song was pure memories. All of which was from my childhood so I found it fitting to feature my own children this time. I think they had more fun recording the song than I did (laughs). Even though I spoke on the gifts we received as Christmas presents, I wanted to touch more on the filling or the time we spend with each other during or around Christmas Day. It seems as if I treasure the times when we didn’t have much these days. Things back then where a lot simpler and more precious (sad to say). I’m just happy I was able to express it in song.”

Every time we are on a song together I automatically go into killing mode because I know he’s going to give it everything he got. “This week I wanted to do a song that was more of an anthem than anything else. I wanted to make sure the hook was catchy and something that listeners could ride to. These type of song aren’t very hard to make. You just have to keep in mind, when making these type of songs, that the listener is always right as opposed to when making a song that’s more concept based. So there’s a lot of catering involved in the process. This is also my first time using Autotune so I hope I did pretty okay with that.”

“The process of making this song was kind of intense. But then again, it always is when I am re-enacting a classic concept such as this one. It’s been done so many times over and over by a few of the greatest the game has ever seen, so if you care about that sort of thing, the pressure was going to be there. I was worried that The Beat was a little too mellow for the concept. I was scared that the cinematic and dramatic feel would be lost. But in the end, I realize that your creation is only going to be what you make it. And, at the end of the day, you have that power to make it what you want. You just have to find that power and apply it. Or am I being too philosophical??? “(Laughs)

We went back and forth on the perception of the search of love and how some people do all these things to find love while others simply stumbled upon it.
