Swizzy & Alicia Adopt A Whole South African Village

Celebs aren’t just adopting one kid from the African continent anymore.  Swizz Beatz dished that he and his wife Alicia Keys have adopted a village in Soweto, South Africa. After going there to film a process between a woman with AIDS and her daughter, the couple was so enamored with the large village, they pledged to build schools and other support for the people.

The people of the village asked Swizz why rappers in America are always talking about killing each other when they have hot water and shoes on their feet and money and things no one in their village has, and it was an eye opener.

“I’m just sitting there, kicking it, talking to the locals. Mind you, they have no water, they have no heat, they have no electricity, [and] they have tin houses. So I’m speaking to this one guy…and he was like, ‘This is beautiful what [you’re doing], but we have no water, we have no this, we have no that. We have no tools. How can we help better ourselves?’” said Beatz.

Since the encounter, the couple set up a meeting with the local government, which granted them approval to purchase containers, ultimately allowing residents access to heat and hot water. They have also started an education program for the men in Soweto in hopes that it will help them get jobs and build their village. Of the Soweto people, Beatz added, “Instead of being mad, disgruntled, ignorant [about their economic disadvantages], their vibe was like, super-Zen.”

ALICIA KEYS, USHER, AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN RESURRECTED FROM DIGITAL DEATH

Alicia Keys, Ryan Seacrest and more came back to “life” today after taking almost a week off of twitter and facebook while trying to raise $1 million dollars for Alicia Keys’ Keep A Child Alive Foundation.

Earlier today, the combined celebs had raised less than $300,000, but thanks to billionaire “Stewie Rah Rah” huge donation of half a million dollars, the foundation reached it’s goal. Money raised will go towards:

**Providing their clinic in Uganda with everything they need to care for more than 7,000 people living with HIV/AIDS for an entire year.

• Running their child rescue program in South Africa for the next 3 years, bringing justice to hundreds of children victimized by rape, and protecting thousands more.

• Provide a year’s supply of medicine, food, care and support to 1500 children in South Africa, orphaned by AIDS or living in child-headed households.

• Expand the programs at their safe-house project in India to more than 1,000 people, helping them regain their health and overcome the stigma of living with HIV/AIDS for 5 years.

GAGA NEEDS YOUR RESURRECTION

Pop phenom Lady Gaga proclaims she is still dead. She sacrificed her digital life to fight HIV/AIDS and wants YOU to buy back her online social life with a donation. Until $1 million is reached, there will be no more tweets or Facebook messages until such amount has been achieved.

SOCIAL SUICIDE

Tomorrow some of your favorite celebs will die for the cause. Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Serena Williams, Swizz Beatz, Kim Kardashian, Usher, Diddy, Janelle Monáe, and Jay Sean are among those pulling the plug on their social networking sites to help raise $1 million for Keys’ Keep A Child Alive Foundation. In an attempt to help those afflicted with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India, the stars will appear in coffins, representing their digital death.

TONI BRAXTON TO BE HONORED FOR HER RESILIENCE

Toni Braxton has been going through some thangs lately … from divorce, to bankruptcy (twice) and recently, lupus! But through it all, she has stuck in there with her head held high. At the 3rd Annual Winter Ball on Dec. 4 at the Delta Air Heritage Museum in Atlanta, the diva will be honored for her resilience.

Also being honored are the American Heart Association and Martin Luther King III for his humanitarian efforts and work as the president of the King Center.

CEO Terrinee Briggs remarked:

“We selected our 2010 honorees because of their story. Both Toni Braxton and Martin Luther King, III have been through many trials and tribulations but have maintained their commitment to the community and their passion to help others … they never gave up, they bounced back and we felt they should be honored for that.”
