Drake Plans to Get High School Diploma This Summer

Instead of spending his summer holed up in the studio, Drake is hitting the books. The Young Money rapper has shared plans to get his high school diploma.

While he’s topped the charts and sold out concerts across the globe, Drizzy is still determined to complete his education. “I’m actually spending my summer graduating high school,” he told Toronto’s NOW Magazine. “That’s my main focus after OVO Fest. I only have one credit left, and I’m really excited about that.”

The Canadian superstar will headline the 3rd Annual OVO Fest in Toronto on Sunday with guests A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, and The Weeknd. In the past, the festival has featured surprise performances from Eminem, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Stevie Wonder.

I don’t want people to just come for the surprise guests, but at the same time I do put in a lot of effort and take a lot of pride in the friends that I can call up to travel to our city,” he said. “I don’t really call on too many people for favors, but for this one night I do.”

He also spoke about the evolution of R&B with newer acts like Frank Ocean and his fellow Canadian The Weeknd. “Surface R&B doesn’t work any more,” explained the 25-year-old. “The whole heartthrob thing, songs about unrealistic love and tearing your shirt off every show—that’s not really where it’s at any more. It’s becoming harder for those guys to sell records, and harder for them to succeed.”

Beyoncé to Direct and Star in New Documentary

Beyoncé has always been a private person, but she plans to give the public a glimpse into her life in a new documentary.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the 30-year-old singer and her agents at ICM have been pitching a non-fiction film to Hollywood studios surrounding the new mom’s life and career.

The movie is said to be “a mix of music and personal study, blending concert footage with confessional interview.” Beyoncé stars, directs, and serves as producer. Around 20 minutes of footage has been previewed for distributors.

This would not be B’s first time dabbling in documentaries. She chronicled her return to the spotlight after a brief hiatus on MTV’s mini-documentary “Beyoncé: Year of 4,” which aired in June 2011.

Pop’s biggest stars are turning to the big screen as of late. Both Justin Bieber and Katy Perry have released 3-D documentaries, with Bieber’s Never Say Never becoming the third highest-grossing doc of all time with $73 million.

Album Cover: G.O.O.D. Music – ‘Cruel Summer’

It’s about to be a Cruel Summer. Kanye West took to Twitter to unveil the cover art for the highly-anticipated G.O.O.D. Music compilation. A statue poses topless on the elaborate 3-D artwork, which will be available in a tri-fold digipack packaging. The project, featuring the singles “Mercy” and “New God Flow,” is due September 4.

The Drama Still Contiunes Despite it All!! Usher Thinks Tragedy Gives Tameka Unfair Advantage

The real reason Usher wants to postpone his child custody hearing with Tameka Raymond is because Usher believes sympathy for Tameka’s recently deceased child will give her an unfair advantage in court.

According to documents obtained by TMZ Usher claims moving forward with the hearing at this time would cause “unnecessary stress and strain” for both himself, Tameka and their two minor children “in the immediate wake of [the] tragedy” and also that Tameka would get an unfair advantage in the hearing because the court would not want to rule against a woman who is still grieving the death of her son.

Tameka is not having it. She calls Usher’s claims of stress and strain ‘bogus’ and says he only visited Kile once during the 15 days he was in the hospital and refused Tameka’s request to post a Tweet asking for prayers for Kile opting instead to Tweet about his breakfast that day.

Tameka wants to resolve the child custody issue as quickly as possible so she can move on with her life.

The next scheduled hearing is for August 13th.

She Didn’t Get the Memo!! Kelly Rowland Says No Destiny’s Child Reunion

Last month Mathew Knowles announced that a Destiny’s Child reunion was imminent and that unreleased music from the girls would be out before years end.

Well, maybe Mathew was talking about a reuinon between LeToya Luckett, Latavia Roberson and Farrah Franklin because Kelly Rowland don’t know nothing about it.

Kelly tells MTV,

“If [reuniting is] something that we would want to do, you know, [we would do it] but in the meantime we’re just enjoying each other’s friendship. That’s the greatest gift of Destiny’s Child.”

Beyoncé to Celebrate World Humanitarian Day with ‘I Was Here’ Video

Via AP

Beyoncé is lending her voice to a good cause. The pop superstar has announced plans to shoot a video for “I Was Here” in honor of World Humanitarian Day.

The 30-year-old singer has teamed up with the United Nations and humanitarian aid organizations to launch a global campaign to celebrate humanitarian work and encourage people worldwide to get involved by doing good for others.

The World Humanitarian Day music video for “I Was Here,” a ballad off Beyoncé’s 2011 album 4, will be filmed in front of a live audience at the UN General Assembly Hall in New York and released globally on August 19. Beyoncé and the song’s writer Diane Warren are donating the video to the campaign.

“We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?” said Beyoncé. “World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.”

The video will be helmed by production company Ridley Scott & Associates and directors Kenzo Digital and Sophie Muller. The campaign aims to reach 1 billion people with a single message when it launches.

In 2008, the UN General Assembly designated August 19 as World Humanitarian Day to raise awareness for humanitarian assistance, recognize people who risk their lives to help others, and commemorate the day in 2003 when 22 people lost their lives in an attack on the UN offices in Baghdad.

André 3000 to Direct Rick Ross’ ‘Sixteen’ Video

Not only did Rick Ross get André 3000 to guest on “Sixteen” off his latest album God Forgives, I Don’t, he also recruited the elusive rapper to direct the video.

The OutKast member raps and plays the banjo on the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League-produced recod, but he wanted to do more.

“Sometimes in our life, depending on what day it is, a lot of times 16 bars ain’t enough, and he loved the track that much that he went above and beyond,” the Maybach Music boss told MTV News during his appearance on “RapFix Live” on Wednesday.

Rick Ross Set to Make Big Debut with ‘God Forgives, I Don’t’

Rick Ross continues to make major moves.  The Maybach Music boss is on track to put up big numbers next week with his fifth album.

God Forgives, I Don’t will debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, according to early estimates from HITS Daily Double.  Boasting features from Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, André 3000, and Usher, the critically-acclaimed set is expected to sell between 200-225,000 copies in its first week.  Official figures won’t be released until Wednesday, August 8.

Rozay’s last album, 2010’s Teflon Don, moved 176,000 units in its first week.  All of his albums have debuted at No. 1 with the exception of Teflon.

GFID is the latest in a series of hot releases from Def Jam.  The label is fresh off a No. 1 with Nas’ Life Is Good album and held the No. 2 spot the previous week with Frank Ocean’s debut, channel ORANGE.

50 Cent and Kanye West Attend Mike Tyson’s Broadway Opening

50 Cent and Kanye West supported their friend Mike Tyson at the opening of his Broadway show, “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth.”  The one-man show, directed by Spike Lee, kicked off with the first of 12 performances last night.  It offers a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the boxing champ’s legendary career.

The “New Day” rapper called the performance a knock-out.  “Man mike show was so good you have to see it. Spike Lee did a amazing job,” tweeted 50.  “I was crying he was so funny.if your not a regular broadway play fan you still have to go see it.  The show was sold out there wasn’t one empty seat.
