Nas and Lauryn Hill Announce ‘Life Is Good/Black Rage’ Tour

Hip-hop history is about to be made. Nas and Lauryn Hill are teaming up this fall on their co-headlining “Life Is Good/Black Rage” tour.

Nas will kick off the U.S. trek on October 6 in Columbia, Maryland. The hip-hop icons will meet up for their first joint show on October 29 in Dallas, Texas.

The tour shares its name with Nas’ latest album Life Is Good and “Black Rage,” a new song by Ms. Hill about the derivative effects of racial inequity and abuse. The record, which will be released this fall, is described by Ms. Hill as a juxtaposition to the statement “life is good,” which she believes can only be so when these long standing issues are addressed and resolved.

“I use the performance platform as an opportunity to express the energy of that moment, and the intention behind it,” said the former Fugees frontwoman. “I’ve been a long standing rebel against the stale, over commoditization. As artists we have opportunity to help the public evolve, raise consciousness and awareness, teach, heal, enlighten and inspire in ways the democratic process may not be able to touch. So we keep it moving.”

“This is history,” said Nas. “Better late than never. Life is good!”

Tickets go on sale this Friday, with a pre-sale in select markets beginning Thursday.

During his address President Obama said Beyonce had been very generous with his daughters and that she couldn’t be a better role model for his children and thanked Jay Z and Beyonce for their friendship.

The President also joked about his bond with Jay Z telling the crowd,

“We both have daughters and our wives are more popular than we are. So, you know, we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard but it’s okay.”

Michelle Obama was not present.

Wyclef Reveals That Lauryn Hill Told him that her Firstborn was his….

In his new autobiography Wyclef John says he and Lauryn Hill broke-up because she lied to him about the paternity of her firstborn child.

From The NY Post

Although he was married when they carried on a torrid affair, Fugees founder Wyclef Jean says it was bandmate Lauryn Hill’s lies about the paternity of her child that doomed the ’90s hip-hop trio.

In his autobiography out tomorrow, Jean claims Hill tricked him into believing her firstborn son was his, when, in fact, the father was Bob Marley’s son Rohan.

“In that moment something died between us. I was married and Lauryn and I were having an affair, but she led me to believe that the baby was mine, and I couldn’t forgive that,” Jean writes in “Purpose,” at which The Post got a first look yesterday.

The Haitian-born Jean says the betrayal by Hill led to the band’s 1997 breakup. “She could not longer be my muse,” he wrote. “Our love spell was broken.”

Video: Frank Ocean f/ John Mayer – ‘Pyramids’

Hours after performing on the season premiere of “SNL,” Frank Ocean debuts the trippy video for “Pyramids” off his Def Jam debut channel ORANGE. In the Nabil-directed clip, the New Orleans native downs some Absynthe and shoots up the bar before riding off on his motorcycle. He makes his way to a strip club in the middle of the desert where topless women work the pole and tempt their male clients. A dazed Frank stumbles upon John Mayer, who appears to perform a guitar solo. He eventually wanders into the desert as the sun rises with the pyramid in the backdrop.

Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey Kick Off ‘American Idol’ Auditions in New York

Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson took a seat at the judges’ table during the first round of auditions for “American Idol” in New York City today. They posed for photos outside before making their way in to begin their first day on the job.

“What I think I wanna be is honest and someone that the contestants can look to for guidance,” said Mariah, who was already amused by the New York talent. “Several classic moments so far lol.”

The Grammy-winning diva was reportedly paid close to $18 million for one season, while Nicki is getting $12 million for a one-year deal, an insider told The Associated Press.

The Young Money rapper doesn’t mind if the contestants cover her songs. “If they want to, it’ll be fun,” she said. “I’ll probably start cracking up laughing just ’cause I’m mentally unstable sometimes, but they shouldn’t be afraid at all. We’ll have fun. The Barbz are gonna be watching. It’s gonna be poppin’.”

Randy Jackson welcomed Nicki to the “Idol” family. “I’m happy that Nicki’s here. She brings a whole ‘nother cool vibe that we’ve never had on the show,” he told the AP.

CPS Files: Social Worker Claims Reporting Mariah Carey Cost Her Job

Days after Mariah Carey gave birth she was reported to the Department of Child and Family Services for drinking beer and taking pain medication while
breastfeeding her twins.

The social worker who reported Mariah was fired shortly after and now she’s suing for wrongful termination.  Mela Ferrer claims she was pressured to cover up the incident to protect Mariah’s image and when she refused she was fired.  In a lawsuit that does not mention Mariah Carey by name, Mela, who was working at the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center on a temporary assignment when Mariah gave birth, claims she was fired because the hospital was worried that the negative press would deter other celebrities from using their facility.

Mela says she was told the official cause of her termination was failure to follow protocol by consulting with the social work supervisor before filing her report, but Mela insists no such protocol was in place at the time. Mela is seeking punitive damages for wrongful termination, violation of several state laws, breach of confidentiality and/or privacy, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and age discrimination.
