Carmelo Anthony Suspended 1 Game For Confrontation With Kevin Garnett (Video of Confrontation)

The NBA has suspended Carmelo Anthony the Knicks forward for one game without pay for “confronting” Kevin Garnett in Madison Square Garden after Monday night’s (January 7) game against the Boston Celtics.

“There are no circumstances in which it is acceptable for a player to confront an opponent after a game,” said Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations, in a statement. “Carmelo Anthony attempted to engage with Kevin Garnett multiple times after Monday’s game and therefore a suspension was warranted.”

The NBA contends that Melo attempted to confront KG in the tunnel, near the player’s locker room and in the parking lot. Yesterday, Anthony told reporters he didn’t do anything that warranted a suspension.

However, this morning, footage of Anthony and Garnett arguing loudly near the Celtics’ team bus was revealed (see below). Clearly the two players would have been doing more than just talking if their entourages and security had not been on hand.

Kevin Garnett Talks Trash About LaLa

Two days ago Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett got into a heated argument during the NY Knicks / Boston Celtics game and now it’s being reported that they were arguing over Carmelo’s wife LaLa.

According to Black Sports Online the reason they were fighting is because Kevin told Carmelo that LaLa tastes like Honey Nut Cherrios.

The slander was so serious that Carmelo waited outside the Celtics bus to finish the conversation but was held back by security from getting too close.

RG3 has Reconstructive Knee Surgery

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III (10) grimaces after hurting his leg

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III underwent reconstructive surgery Wednesday on his right knee to repair torn lateral and anterior cruciate ligaments, according to multiple reports.

Noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Pensacola, Fla. Sources told ESPN.com that Andrews believed Griffin would be recovered in time for the 2013 season opener.

Total reconstruction, which was completed Wednesday afternoon, was deemed necessary after Andrews discovered a complete tear of the patellar graft that was used to repair the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner’s torn ACL at Baylor in 2009.

USA Today received a text from Griffin’s father, Robert Griffin II, explaining the extent of the injury. “Robert’s ACL is intact, but not enough for his profession,” he said. “You and I could be fine. But he is an athlete. So they will replace.”

Griffin reinjured the knee in the first quarter of Sunday’s wild-card playoff loss to Seattle but stayed in the game despite being clearly impacted, raising questions about whether he should have continued to play.

The 2012 No. 2 overall draft pick had sprained the LCL in December during a game against Baltimore and sat out the following week against Cleveland but returned to finish the regular season playing with a knee brace that limited his mobility.

The Redskins have not made a formal announcement regarding Griffin’s condition or his prognosis.

A torn LCL is less severe and normally necessitates a recovery period of several months as opposed to the more serious ACL surgery that usually involves a year of rehabilitation. For a surgery of Griffin’s nature, projected recovery is six to eight months, according to medical experts.

Before going into surgery, an upbeat Griffin tweeted, “Thank you for your prayers and support. I love God, my family, my team, the fans, & I love this game. See you guys next season.”

beyonce-shares-new-blue-ivy-photo-for-the-holidays

Beyoncé, James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson will perform the patriotic songs at the second inauguration of President Obama on Jan. 21, the inauguration committee will announce later today.

Beyoncé, who’s also starring at the Super Bowl halftime show next month, will sing the national anthem, always a tough tune to pull off well.

Taylor, the Sweet Baby James icon of ’70s folk-rock, will sing America the Beautiful.

And Clarkson, the first winner of American Idol (2002), will sing My Country, ‘Tis of Thee, the song with different lyrics but the same tune as the British national anthem. At the first Obama inaugural ceremony in 2009, soul diva Aretha Franklin sang it while wearing a memorable hat.

More announcements about entertainment at the inauguration are expected in coming days. All this will take place during the public swearing-in ceremonies on the Capitol steps, when President Obama delivers his second inaugural address before a crowd likely to top more than 1 million.

Obama will officially take the oath of office at the White House on Jan. 20, as per the Constitution, but the repeat swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural parade, the lunch with Congress and the inaugural balls will take place on Monday.

Chief Keef’s Stepbrother Gunned Down in Chicago

Chief Keef's Stepbrother Gunned Down in Chicago

The stepbrother of teen rapper Chief Keef was shot in the back of the head and killed last week in Chicago, according to local reports.

Ulysses Gissendanner III, 19, was gunned down last Wednesday near 124th Street and South Union Avenue, DNA Info reports. Gissendanner reportedly had been visiting his uncle in the West Pullman neighborhood when he was shot in a car.

Gissendanner, a rapper called ”YPN Boomtown,” is the stepson of Alfonso Cozart whose son is Chief Keef, aka Keith Cozart. The family said they don’t think Gissendanner’s ties to the rapper spurred the shooting, and Keef’s lawyer told DNAinfo he has no relationship with his father or Gissendanner.

Keef recently released “Finally Rich,” a much-hyped album that sold about 50,000 copies in its first week. He was convicted last year of pointing a gun at a Chicago police officer and came under fire in September for joking on Twitter about the shooting death of an 18-year-old rival rapper, Joseph “Lil JoJo” Coleman. He later claimed his Twitter account was hacked.

Keef moved to Northbrook late last year.  Gissendanner is the latest of several young local rappers shot and killed in the past several months. Joshua Davis, 18, was shot to death on Christmas night in Chicago after an altercation with several males on a CTA bus, police said. Officials said the group followed Davis off the bus, and one of the men shot him several times in the torso and once in the ear.

The family of the rapper said they believe his hooded sweatshirt honoring Lil JoJo led to his death.

IRS Delays Tax Season, Will Start Accepting Returns On January 30

Irs Delays Tax Season

The Internal Revenue Service says late changes to federal tax laws should mean only a short delay for most taxpayers to file their 2012 returns.

The agency said Tuesday that more than 120 million taxpayers – about 80 percent of all filers – should be able to start filing their federal returns on Jan. 30. Others will have to wait until late February or March to file because the agency needs time to update and test its systems.

Those who will have to wait include people claiming residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits. The filing season had been slated to start Jan. 22 but was delayed because of the big tax package passed by Congress Jan. 1.

RG3 To Have Surgery On Torn LCL, With ACL Condition To Be Determined

Robert Griffin Surgery

Washington Redskins quarterback RG III is facing surgerythis week to repair tears to the LCL in his right knee and to determine the damage to the ACL in that same knee, as first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Redskins’ dual-threat quarterback appeared to re-aggravate a pre-existing injury early in a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday and was eventually forced to leave the game after his  underneath him as he reached for a low snap during the fourth quarter.

Citing an unnamed source, ESPN reported that Griffin “likely tore at least part of his ACL.”  On Monday, the Washington Post reported that an MRI of Griffin’s knee revealed “at least partial tears” to both ligaments, according to sources with knowledge of the test results.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan told reporters on Monday that it was proving difficult to ascertain the extent of the damage due to previous injuries to the knee. Griffin tore the ACL in his right knee in 2009 while at Baylor University.

Shanahan came under fire during and after the Redskins’ 24-14 loss to the Seahawks for keeping a visibly-impaired Griffin on the field. Wearing a bulky knee brace since spraining his LCL against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9, Griffin was not his explosive self against the Seahawks. After an awkward fall during the first quarter, the 22-year-old quarterback was noticeably limping. Nevertheless, Shanahan stuck with RG3 into the fourth quarter, when he went down for good.

Jazmine Sullivan Drops the Pounds, Shows off Slimmer Figure

JAZMINE

We haven’t heard much from songstress Jazmine Sullivan since she gracefully stepped out the limelight via Twitter in 2011. Part of her frustration with industry is that she felt like her true artistry, her voice, was overlooked because she wasn’t barbie-girl thin or “picture perfect” as some of her other female counterparts.  However, Ms. Sullivan is here to prove the skeptics, critics, and haters wrong and teach them a thing or two.  She recently posted a pic of her newly formed body, that she has been hard at work on with a strict eating regimen and exercise.  I see ya Jazz!!
