Lauryn Hill Addresses Tax Evasion Charges in Lengthy Letter

Lauryn Hill has turned to the Internet once again to express her thoughts.  After sharing her support for Nicki Minaj following her Summer Jam cancellation, the former Fugees member is addressing tax evasion reports.

Earlier this week, TMZ reported that Hill had failed to file federal tax returns in 2005, 2006, and 2007 when she earned more than $1.8 million.  She is being charged with three counts of misdemeanor failure to file taxes and could face up to one year in prison for each count and $300,000 in fines.

But Ms. Hill is firing back.  In a lengthy letter posted on her Tumblr page, the 37-year-old singer claims to have removed herself and her family from society during those three years in order to “keep them safe, healthy, and free from danger.”  Read her explanation below.

For the past several years, I have remained what others would consider underground.  I did this in order to build a community of people, like-minded in their desire for freedom and the right to pursue their goals and lives without being manipulated and controlled by a media protected military industrial complex with a completely different agenda.  Having put the lives and needs of other people before my own for multiple years, and having made hundreds of millions of dollars for certain institutions, under complex and sometimes severe circumstances, I began to require growth and more equitable treatment, but was met with resistance.  I entered into my craft full of optimism (which I still possess), but immediately saw the suppressive force with which the system attempts to maintain it’s control over a given paradigm.  I’ve seen people promote addiction, use sabotage, black listing, media bullying and any other coercion technique they could, to prevent artists from knowing their true value, or exercising their full power.  These devices of control, no matter how well intentioned (or not), can have a devastating outcome on the lives of people, especially creative types who must grow and exist within a certain environment and according to a certain pace, in order to live and create optimally.

I kept my life relatively simple, even after huge successes, but it became increasingly obvious that certain indulgences and privileges were expected to come at the expense of my free soul, free mind, and therefore my health and integrity.  So I left a more mainstream and public life, in order to wean both myself, and my family, away from a lifestyle that required distortion and compromise as a means for maintaining it.  During this critical healing time, there were very few people accessible to me who had not already been seduced or affected by this machine, and therefore who could be trusted to not try and influence or coerce me back into a dynamic of compromise. Individual growth was expected to take place unnaturally, or stagnated outright, subject to marketing and politics.  Addressing critical issues like pop culture cannibalism or its manipulation of the young at the expense of everything, was frowned upon and discouraged by limiting funding, or denying it outright.  When one has a prolific creative output like I did/do, and is then forced to stop, the effects can be dangerous both emotionally and psychologically, both for the artist and those in need of that resource.  It was critically important that I find a suitable pathway within which to exist, without being distorted or economically strong-armed.

During this period of crisis, much was said about me, both slanted and inaccurate, by those who had become dependent on my creative force, yet unwilling to fully acknowledge the importance of my contribution, nor compensate me equitably for it.  This was done in an effort to smear my public image, in order to directly affect my ability to earn independently of this system.  It took a long time to locate and nurture a community of people strong enough to resist the incredibly unhealthy tide, and more importantly see through it.  If I had not been able to make contact with, and establish this community, my life, safety and freedom, would have been directly affected as well as the lives, safety and freedom of my family.  Failure to create a non toxic, non exploitative environment was not an option.

CPS Files: Creflo Dollar Arrested for Getting ‘Physical’ with 15-Year-Old Daughter

According to reports, Creflo Dollar was taken into custody on Friday by authorities after who say he slightly hurt his 15-year-old daughter in a fight at his metro Atlanta home.  According to Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigator Brent Rowan, deputies responded to a call of domestic violence at the home around 1am Friday.  Apparently Dollar, 50, and his daughter were arguing over whether she could go to a party when the pastor “got physical” with her, leaving her with “superficial injuries,” says Rowan.

Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He bonded out of Fayette County jail Friday morning. The AP says a phone number listed for him didn’t connect.  Dollar is the pastor for World Changers Church International in College Park.

Sherri Shepherd Presses Charges After Twitter User Threatens her with Rape

Actress Sherri Shepherd is pursuing charges against a Twitter user who threatened her with rape Wednesday night. The View co-host received a tweet from @DaCloneKiller, who wrote, “Somebody should drag u in a back alley and rape you.”

Shepherd re-tweeted the post, adding, “THIS IS A THREAT & I’M PISSED.” The actress then took further steps to combat the harassment. “You think I should be raped in a back alley? Let’s see if the police agree w you & I took a pic of your tweet,” she tweeted. “I am going 2 file a police report 4U threatening me,” Shepherd continued. And so help me God, when I find out where U live, charges will follow.”

The actress also used the moment to continue her stand against online bullying. She tweeted: “This type of bullying is one of the reasons children are killing themselves b/c there’s no consequences for the bully(s).”

Twitter Wars: Wale Confronts Journalist Amanda Diva Over a Tweet

Twitter is your up close and personal front row seat to all the celebrity drama and beef, that just so happens to be on a social networking site.  Wale went emo over a Tweet from journalist Amanda Diva Seales and got up in her face about it.  It all started when Amanda Tweeted

Next thing you know there’s a flurry of Tweets from Amanda explaining what happened next,

“I keep being told to “not sweat” that @Wale came in my face trying to fight me ovr a tweet. Y in hip hop do we excuse such behavior? Were I to get an apology then perhaps. But it shld be known that dude is completely out of line with women on a regular basis. Folks say “we expect that from him”. But what does that mean? It’s ok bcuz we all kno of the regularity of such behavior? In hip hop women r always expected to “be cool” abt completely out of line behavior from our male counterparts. No dice. At some point, in an intrvw, some1 will ask 4 the whole @wale “tweet fight” story & I’ll gladly tell it. Bcuz it’s part of a bigger issue…”

Wale never addressed the issued directly but Tweeted certain people were trying to use him to get attention.  Wale and Amanda both later deleted their Tweets.

Stacy Francis Tries to Clear Up Whitney Houston Incident, Calls It a ‘Misunderstanding’

The night before Whitney Houston died she and X-Factor contestant Stacey Francis got into an altercation at a pre-pre Grammy party allegedly over Ray J.  Now that Stacy is promoting her new single, a remake of Prince’s Purple Rain, the question has come up again and Stacey addresses the incident once and for all.

Stacey tells Sister 2 Sister,

It’s something I don’t need to really discuss anymore. I don’t want to stir up her fans; we need to let her rest….I am an old family friend of Ray J and have known him for 15 years. Ray J came in and hugged me and it became a misunderstanding…Ray J and I have spoken and I wanted to make sure he was OK…He’s a very strong man, a good guy and his relationship with God has gotten stronger since….I have this gift that I really want to share with this world…No one will really understand what happened and I just hope that I don’t have to talk about it the rest of my career. Whitney told me God is a God of second chances.”

D. B. Woodside from “Single Ladies” Glad to See Stacey Dash Go

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. An unguarded celebrity saying exactly what’s on their mind.  When Stacey Dash left VH1 drama Single Ladies it was under a cloud of suspicion that she was being difficult and the B word.  Single Ladies star D.B. Woodside confirms the rumors and tells Atlanta’s V103 that he was glad when Stacey left the show.

D.B. admits,

“I don’t want to cause any trouble, but I, for one, am happy she’s gone. It’s a much better place to be. It’s a much better set. I’m just going to keep it straight. I’m just going to keep it real. I am happy that she’s not there anymore.”

“When I first heard that Stacey was leaving, I went out and celebrated and had some drinks.”

Erykah Badu Blast Flaming Lips Over Controversial NSFW Video

Erykah Badu went on a serious rant over the recently released video featuring Badu and her sister Nayrok titled, ‘The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face.”  Before the explicit video was pulled, I had the opportunity to see it.  I must say it was a bit raunchy and jaw dropping, as you can see from the pictures.  However, Badu has fired back stating that the video should not have been released and that she did not approve any visuals.  Read the message below:

@waynecoyne then… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some).

Even with Window Seat there was a method and thought process involved. I have not one need for publicity . I just love artistic dialogue . And just because an image is shocking does not make it art. You obviously have a misconception of who I am artistically. I don’t mind that but…

By the way you are an ass. You did everything wrong from the on set .

First: You showed me a concept of beautiful tasteful imagery( by way of vid text messages) . I trusted that. I was mistaken. Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days. That all spells 1 thing , Self Serving . When asked what the concept meant after u explained it , u replied ,”it doesn’t mean anything , I just want to make a great video that everyone is going to watch. ” I understood , because as an artist we all desire that. But we don’t all do it at another artist’s expense . I attempted to resolve this respectfully by having conversations with u after the release but that too proved to be a poor excuse for art. From jump, You begged me to sit in a tub of that other sh-t and I said naw. I refused to sit in any liquid that was not water. But Out of RESPECT for you and the artist you ‘appear’ to be, I Didn’t wanna kill your concept , wanted u to at least get it out of your head . After all, u spent your dough on studio , trip to Dallas etc.. Sooo, I invited Nayrok , my lil sis and artist, who is much more liberal ,to be subject of those other disturbing (to me ) scenes . I told u from jump that I believed your concept to be disturbing. But would give your edit a chance. You then said u would take my shots ( in clear water/ fully covered parts -seemed harmless enough) and Nayrok’s part ( which I was not present for but saw the photos and a sample scene of cornstarch dripping ) and edit them together along with cosmic, green screen images ( which no one saw) then would show me the edit. . Instead, U disrespected me by releasing pics and rough vid on the internet without my approval. (Contract breech ) That is equivalent to putting out a security camera’s images of me changing in the fitting room. I never would have approved that tasteless, meaningless, shock motivated video . Our art is a reflection of who we are . I have no connection to those images shot in their raw version. I was interested in seeing an amazing edit that would perhaps change or alter my thoughts . Never happened . You also did the same thing with the song itself which displays crappy “rough “vocals by me . I let it go , perhaps iiiii was missing something, I thought. I Should have followed my first mind back in studio when recording the vocals “your way”. ( Red flag.) It was uncomfortable. For that I am at fault . Consequently, brother, As a human I am disgusted with your what appears to be desperation and poor execution. And disregard for others . As a director I am unimpressed . As a sociologist I understand your type. As your fellow artist I am uninspired. As a woman I feel violated and underestimated. Hope it works out for ya ,Wayne. Really i could give a shit less. Still love your live show tho. And , you’re welcomed. Lesson learned . By the way I have guested in very few videos. But I have always been given the opportunity to see the edit and contribute to it when my roll is substantial. Not this time . I guess u feel it better to apologize than ask for permission and be refused . Hey, Love u man, but your ways are not very nice . O, And on behalf of all the artists u have manipulated or plan to manipulate, find another way . These things have been said out of necessity. And if you don’t like it you can KiSS MY Glittery ASS . O and Nayrok told me to tell u to kiss her ass too . Almost forgot. Peace

Ms. Badu
